1. Getting Started with iMovie

• Download and Install: iMovie comes pre-installed on most Apple devices. If not, download it from the Mac App Store (for macOS) or the App Store (for iOS).
• Open iMovie: Launch the app from your Applications folder (Mac) or home screen (iOS).
• Create a New Project: Click on “Create New” and choose “Movie” to start a new project.

2. Importing Media

• Import Videos/Photos: Click on the “Import” button (arrow-down icon) to add videos, photos, or audio files from your device or external storage.
• Drag and Drop: You can also drag and drop media files directly into the iMovie timeline.

3. Editing Your Video

• Add Clips to the Timeline: Drag your imported media into the timeline at the bottom of the screen.
• Trim Clips: Hover over the edges of a clip in the timeline and drag to shorten or extend it.
• Split Clips: Place the playhead where you want to split a clip, then right-click and select “Split Clip” or press Command + B.
• Delete Clips: Select a clip and press the Delete key to remove it.

4. Adding Transitions

• Access Transitions: Click on the “Transitions” tab (two overlapping rectangles) in the toolbar.
• Add a Transition: Drag a transition between two clips in the timeline. Adjust the duration by double-clicking the transition.

5. Adding Titles and Text

• Access Titles: Click on the “Titles” tab (T icon) in the toolbar.
• Add a Title: Drag a title style onto a clip in the timeline. Double-click the title to edit the text.

6. Adding Music and Sound Effects

• Import Audio: Click on the “Audio” tab (music note icon) to add background music or sound effects.
• Adjust Volume: Select a clip, then drag the volume slider to adjust the audio level.
• Add Voiceovers: Click the microphone icon to record a voiceover directly into your project.

7. Applying Effects and Filters

• Access Filters: Click on the “Filters” tab (three circles icon) to apply color grading or effects to your clips.
• Adjust Speed: Select a clip, then click the speedometer icon to speed up or slow down the clip.

8. Exporting Your Video

• Preview Your Project: Click the play button to preview your video.
• Export: Click on “File” > “Share” > “File” to export your video. Choose the resolution and quality settings, then save it to your desired location.

Tips for Beginners

• Keyboard Shortcuts: Learn shortcuts like Command + Z (undo) and Command + C (copy) to speed up editing.
• Use Templates: iMovie offers pre-made templates for trailers and themes to make editing easier.
• Practice: Experiment with different tools and features to get comfortable with the software.
